Learning Objectives:

After taking part in this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Compare the changes on computed tomography (CT) for patients with metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) after treatment with imatinib with the changes in glucose metabolism on [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)
  • Evaluate the CT response criteria for predicting time to tumor progression following imatinib treatment in patients with metastatic GISTs
  • Review existing clinical trial data relating to the use of the current international tumor response criteria, Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST), for evaluating the initial tumor response to imatinib in patients with metastatic GISTs
